Our former Bobcat is the top scorer for the #1 team in the SEC!

Averaging 20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals....

Shooting 51% from the field and 44% from deep.

I personally have moved past my bitter, "what could have been" era....but I apologize if bringing this up hurts you.

Saw that - past my bitter phase because if I had that opportunity to play for a P5 program near my hometown I sure as heck would take it. Mark is shaping up to be a top ten NBA draft pick if he keeps up the great play - feel lucky I got to see him play in the confines of the Convo - one of my favorite memories of him was him throwing me passes during the three point contest the AD puts on every year among students at the Convo.

Can't fault the guy for making the move with the rules in front of him. But he's dead to me for leaving the coaching staff out to dry.

There is no current draft buzz.

Understand why he left.

But the way he handled his departure with communication was not done the right way.

I’m also not seeing where he’s being listed as a top-10 pick. To me, that’s a huge gamble for an NBA team to do that with Sears size. But I don’t read much when it comes to the NBA.

The three top players in the SEC are transfers from mid-majors....

Dalton Knect, Sears, Johni Broome

Another poaching season is near.

Toledo's gonna have to pony up some serious NIL cash to retain Moss and Maddox.

Nor will there be IMO. 6'1 guards who are 22 years old with good college stats are 2nd rd picks.

He'd need to grow 2 or more inches and rewind time to be 18 to be a lottery pick.

From most reliable draft boards, Mark is on the outside of being a second round pick, but he is trending in the right direction. Not sure where the top 10 pick talk came from.

His size, speed, and athleticism are considered detriments by the gurus. Will make a nice living whether in G-League/NBA or in a high level league overseas.

Okay, so we've established he's unlikely to be a lottery pick and thrown shade regarding his grades.

Haha, seems like many of us may still remain in our initial phase.

Good for Mark, and it is nice to have had that talent as a Bobcat for a minute.

It will be interesting to see if he takes his Covid year and comes back for year #5.

Mark is 2-3 inches shorter than Jason. To me, that is the only reason why he is regarded a little lower than Preston was (no pun intended). He is a better scorer/shooter but of course Preston the better passer.

He has always been an incredible player, from the moment I was screaming for him to get more PT as a freshman. Just the type of guy where you are very comfortable with the ball in his hands.

I understand why Boals (and many others) are still upset about it, especially in light of his success and our lack of it, but I'd bury the hatchet and ride the wave.

He posts about D'Angelo Russell 10 times a week.

Sears is currently the leading scorer on a favorite to win the whole thing, in the conversation for SEC Player of The Year... I would be telling EVERYONE I helped him grow into that player, and I can help you too!

Especially in this era of portal jumpers, you gotta use any angle to your advantage.

Unless he finds a way to sneak into the end of the 1st round (highly unlikely) he def should come back another year. It won't hurt him. Depends on when he wants to start his career overseas vs how much he's making at Bama.

I get this as well...but what more does he have to prove after leading the SEC in scoring? But yes...trying to improve draft stock in first round...I get that too.

Obviously, he goes to the combine and his performance there will ultimately make the decision for him.

How often do guys leave early to play in Europe? I can't think of any examples off the top of my head.

There probably has been, but you're right I can't think of one off the top of my head. Since this would be his bonus COVID year is only reason I said he might want to just jet and make $$$ pending how much he's already making. If I were him I'd come back to Bama.

Two mock drafts are out on ESPN and The Athletic.

No mention of Sears getting drafted.

This is an extremely deep PG draft. I can name 6-7 without even hitting google. He'd probably do well to go back to school and make another run at the title, be forever an Alabama legend.

Especially, if Oats leaves... Sears comes out and says I love yall, I'm staying here...

All this talk about his height being a deterrent isn't untrue or without reason, but it's not going to keep him out of the league. Jalen Brunson is 6'2" and just played in his first All-Star game. That's probably who'd I'd considered a "comp" based on height, position, etc. The height won't be a problem. The Assist/TO ratio is what I'd be more worried about.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/mark-sears-1...

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/jalen-brunso...

He's a score-first PG averaging 4/2.5 assist/turnover per game. Now add in that he's 6'1".

His height and ast:to are issues. His biggest problem is his age. 22 year olds aren't top picks anymore regardless of college production.

Wild that 22 is too old to be a prospect.

He'd probably get well into six figures in NIL to come back, wouldn't he?
