I think Kowalczyk signed an extension in 2022 so who knows where he is now? Toledo usually ranks well in coaching pay so I doubt Kowalczyk is below MAC market rates. A couple of point guards, Isparo and Cooper, a big guard, Elmer, and 2 bigs, Kotecki and 7-footer Potter. Potter is starting to look like the real deal. Ohio is playing no freshmen with Nicol redshirting despite desperately needing help on the inside. Makes you wonder. Both programs have 2 high school players for next year. Ohio has Burris and Evans. Miami is bringing in one of the best high school point guards in Ohio, Skaljac. Several MAC schools, including Ohio, offered Skaljac. They also have a 6-7 player out of Pennsylvania who was offered by Maryland. In my opinion, Steele is upgrading the Miami roster while Ohio's roster has a lot of deficiencies that need to be addressed. Trying to be an optimist (not The Optimist) when it comes to MAC basketball, I have confidence these coaches will get things done. I believe their recent recruiting classes shows evidence of this. The mystery is Buffalo and new coach Halcovage. I think he has the pedigree to be successful despite first-year disappointment. And I'm not too optimistic with how the Michigan schools are trending.
