Because the football season was postponed, Utah's biggest revenue source was eliminated, or at least delayed. When and for how long employees will be furloughed hasn't been announced, but it includes the AD, all coaches and all support personnel. https://kutv.com/news/local/u-of-u-furloughs-every-employ...
This puts a crimp in the Pac-12's plans to open in "alignment" with the B10.

Not necessarily, the furloughs can be staggered and done really at anytime. Our entire department has been furloughed (minus AD and Head Coaches), but activities are still going on. Without any real details, this may simply be some nice looking window dressing.
