We have land! As do three other MAC teams (Miami, BG, CMU)
https://imgur.com/a/bWpp2S3
This is r/cfb's (reddit's college football board) imperialism map following week 5. The way this works - at the beginning of the season, every county in the United States belongs to the nearest FBS campus (based on that county's geographical center). Any time a team with land loses, their land is claimed by the team who beats them. If you lose land, you can regain land by beating a team that has land. Wash, rinse, repeat until the season ends. It means nothing and is all for fun.
-We lost our starting land by losing to San Diego State, but regained land by beating a then-undefeated FAU and not losing since. We gained no land by beating Iowa State since they lost their land when they lost to Iowa the week prior. That's why our only territory is the area surrounding FAU. Of all the teams that have land, our territory is the smallest by geographic area and total number of counties.
-There is not a possible scenario where the MAC loses or gains land until the bowl season. The only remaining non-con games are Toledo/UMass and WMU/Mississippi State this weekend. None of those teams have land.
-There will be a convergence of land this weekend when Miami and BG play each other.
-The point of this map is ultimately flawed compared to the college basketball map by virtue of the sports' postseason formats. Several teams will have land in football when the season is over. In basketball, other than a few small exceptions, the national champion is very likely to own the entire map.

Miami will probably beat Bowling Green. Then taking all the MAC's land will be in front of us on the schedule.
I saw a strange note this week that Maryland will be the 7th straight unbeaten team that Ohio State has played. That includes the losses to Michigan and Georgia last year. Indiana was 0-0, YSU 1-0 (but with no FBS land), WKU 2-0... So they have taken land someone every week but YSU. I bring this up because somehow #1 Georgia still only has their own land. The opened against FCS UT-Martin. Ball State had lost their land to UK. South Carolina had lost theirs to UNC. UAB has only beaten FCS N.C. A&T. Auburn lost the prior week to Texas A&M

I love reddit. These dudes will come up with anything.
With that said, it's funny OU "owns" central florida, but not SE Ohio - which belongs to Oregon State, cause we lost to SDSU.

How bout this - Miami's starting land belongs to the other Miami, but Miami owns the territory directly south by virtue of beating UC.
