This was the risk by moving to Charlotte. The patience is not there like it is in the MAC.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Fiami @ Peden with 25,086 fans
2023 10-7 near shutout of Iowa State @ Solich Field
2025 17-10 defeat of WVU @ Peden in front of 26,740

Charlotte went 1-11 last year with a one-score win against Monmouth - and got drilled by both instate rivals. And now lose to an FCS Citadel. Equivalence would be Bobcats going 1-12 including getting drilled by Miami and say Akron. and then losing at home to Youngstown State. 49er fans are actually very patient (or more so apathetic), but he's digging deeper and deeper. Albin has App St. in two weeks (ole miss next week so...) and ECU in November. Probably needs to win one. If App State rolls them in Boone he may not recover.

Losing at home to Youngstown State would be much better than losing to the Citadel. The Citadel was 4-8 last year and got blown out by another FCS team a week ago. YSU is a playoff team with arguably the best FCS QB.

A couple more hot seat candidates in that geographic area:

Will Healy at ETSU already lost to Campbell this season. Ouch!!
Derek Mason at MTSU did beat hapless Murray last night. Next win is probably late November vs Sam Houston.

Mason can get a pink slip with no buyout at this point. He's toast.

Yeah, it is more like losing to Duquesne..... I remember watching Fordham start to come back against us in 2022 and thinking it was starting to look unlikely that Albin was going to survive the season. It felt like when the switch to the 4-2-5 finally clicked against WMU in 2022, it clicked in a huge way. The turnaround was sudden. We went from awful in 2021 and with a really, really bad defense to start 2022, giving up 41 points, 561 yards, and 387 passing yards per game through six games where the offense still carried the team to 3-3, to winning 40 games in four years. Somehow, given Charlotte's history of losing and just how bad that loss is in year two, I don't feel a turnaround coming. Most of their predicted easiest conference opponents are on the road while their home games are against teams like Navy, Tulane, ECU and Memphis. Of those Tulane was picked the lowest in the preseason poll and they are all upper division. Appy was predicted lower in the Sunbelt than Louisiana but the road game of those is Appy. There are not so many games where you think that they have a realistic chance at that game. Probably the best chances are all road games like @Appy, @UNT, @Tulsa, @Temple and @UAB. 0-12 looks pretty plausible. :(

Next year is the year of Coach Albin's fait. Took over a horrible football team/program. Has resources and money to spend! Roster turnover is a given however for a G6 program I believe you need core program guys in the system that stay an extra year etc. before hitting the portal. Albin is trying to build that. Honestly I hope it works for him! His departure was an epic failure! And his actions after the championship game on the way home are inexcusable however he was great for OU! Left us in good hands and built on and improved the Solich Program. People don’t leave jobs. They leave bosses! I am sure it was absolutely the hardest and emotional decision he ever made, thus the botched exit! Sure he could have and perhaps should have waited it out but unless you have lived it you don’t understand. It doesn’t change the fact that he is a good man. Wishing him success and for those still feeling burned/betrayed by him a hope that someday you will get over your hurt!

LB Kadin Schmitz with 7 tackles and LB Stellan Bowman with 4 for UNCC yesterday. Schmitz was 2nd on the team in tackles last year with 66 while LB Taylor Shay was third with 64. Any other former Bobcats playing for Charlotte this year?

I imagine these former Bobcats and current Niners are making more $ since transferring, but doesn't team success mean something? While Ohio went 9-4 last year, UNCC went 1-11.

If he starts 1-23 with only a win over Monmouth, which, as I said earlier in the thread, looks plausible, I can believe that he won't survive 2026. Next year, you have to figure the opposite of what I mentioned above and they might get a lot of weaker conference foes at home and have a chance win more games if they field a decent team. Of course, the opposite is true in that while it makes it easier to get 4 or 5 wins getting the tougher conference foes on the road makes it a lot harder to actually get in contention.

It should be mentioned that Biff Poggi got fired after a 6-16 start so if Albin only wins one or two games this year, the leash is only two years short.

I’d be surprised if money was pouring into Charlotte at this moment in time, but for some perhaps a slightly larger five figure check is worth it to lose FCS games.

They actually did get a jump in money for NIL going into last year. But it seems the money isn't why he left. The fact that we kept most of the assistants tells you that there isn't a huge gap in pay, and while he is making more that in was in 2024, he was making only marginally more than Smith was last year and apparently less than what we ultimately offered after he had verballed to UNCC. This apparently only rubbed more salt in the wound between he and Julie Cromer, which according to the people that claim to know him well, was almost all of the reason why he chose to leave. It is a shame. He might have continued to do well here but it is going to be hard to save his job from where the 'Niners are right now.

That timeline is quickly slipping out of his hands. If they get hammered at App in two weeks the general thought is things will likely spiral. A repeat of one win... or even two is not what he can afford. Winless and he has no control.

Two games to circle. App St in two weeks and ECU in November. If they get rolled by in-state rivals and can't get a couple of wins he's looking at the abyss .... they close at Tulsa and home with Navy.

Yes, he took over a horrible program. But it at least had some juice. He's lost that. Nice guy I'm sure. Don't care. Biff was unique and fun. That provided no cover.

And oh by the way - the biggest challenge he has... the current (new) AD did not hire him.

Albin is in a bad spot right now. Will check back after App

It's been reported there was a "mostly" verbal altercation in the locker room after the Ole Miss game that led to leading rusher Chance "Deuce" Williams being immediately kicked off the team. Such a thing could galvanize the team around Albin or lead to further deterioration of morale. The performance against App State will probably show which way the team is headed.

Let's be clear about Albin "leaving" Ohio. The situation concerning Albin was he did NOT want to leave Ohio. It was that Ohio did NOT want him back. And by saying "Ohio" didn't want him back, that's directed to the then-leadership of an athletic administrator who is now employed elsewhere. Albin had no intentions of leaving Ohio until it was made very clear to him that his future at Ohio was going to look very differently. Those who know, know. So let's not make Albin's departure out like he won the MACC and then immediately bolted Ohio in search of better things. He did exactly what any of us on here would have done being dealt the same hand. I feel bad for him because he was dealt a crappy hand here after accomplishing something that hadn't been done since 1968 (that not even Frank Solich could do). He was then dealt a not-so-great hand in the Charlotte situation - which he openly took - and sadly I feel his days could be numbered there too.

These things are usually kept in house. Doesn't sound good if the best player is off the team. We will see if others follow or the team rallies behind the program.

I find it hard to believe this take is accurate if what has been said about him being offered more money by us after the MACC win than Charlotte is giving him is true. Even harder to believe knowing that Cromer was likely working on her exit already, why would she care that much.

I think he misplayed his hand. Cromer told him to wait until after the game because she could get him paid more if he won the title, he felt slighted by that and ran his mouth to friends that the university didn’t want him when in reality he should have had some belief in himself and that team. Based on his public speaking skills, I find it hard to believe he would have strong negotiating skills.

There is no world where he gets offered more money by Ohio than he is getting paid at Charlotte and we “didn’t want him here”.

Charlotte fired Will Healey in the middle of a football season...

Even though he had earlier beat Duke and took them to their only ever bowl.

How can they justify keeping Albin in light of that?

I'm not here to argue whether Albin's departure was right or wrong, but he accepted the Charlotte job before he accomplished something not accomplished here since 1968 not after. Mike Hill publicly stated he worked it out with Albin to even coach that game.

Also, I hope Albin turns it around. Sometimes it has to hit bottom. Maybe last week was that. I'm not cheering, but what are you supposed to do...pretend it isn't happening?

I agree with two statements made or implied here:

1. Cromer didn't treat Albin well.
2. Albin didn't play his hand well.

Those two realities can exist in the same universe.

I don't have a boatload of inside information on what transpired, but I do have a few little tidbits here and there. It's just enough to make me want to know more. I do wish we had some real investigative journalists in this town who would try to turn over some more rocks. Then we might know the full story of what went down. At this juncture it's just real hard to say much more than #1 and #2 above are in all probabiity true.

his winning at Ohio does not require me, nor lead me, to accept failure at Charlotte. I wanted him to succeed at Charlotte as much as anyone - I'm probably the only one on this board that has a dog (no pun) in the fight. He has not done so.

If only he didn't have a sick dog he could have ridden with the players after the big win. He CHOSE to leave, end of story. And any intelligent coach would have waited until AFTER the regular season ended to start negotiating a new contract.
