In a 100M, who wins? Who's in the conversation? I would think
Scott Mayle Chase Cochran Papi White

Might be Les Carney who won silver medal in 200m at 1960 Olympics. He was a RB in football.

Mike Mitchell ran a 4.3 at OU's pro day many years ago.
Certainly, we've had some faster guys, but rare we see officially clocked times unless they're at the combine or pro day.

Carney’s best 100m was 10.3. Only player I could find of recent players was Brune at 10.85 100m. Scott Mayle’s OHIO hall of fame info says he held the Ohio Univ. school record in the 100m when he ran track here, but I don’t know his time. Edit: it’s 10.41. Brinker ran a 11.27 in the 100m as a senior in HS, can’t find anything after that.

Les, at 91, still helps with the First Tee of Akron that my boys participate in. He does not act or move like he's 91.

I can only imagine what a guy like this would do today with all the newer diet and training techniques. And still active today, truly an exceptional individual.

Les Carney was incredible in the 200. I seem to recall scotty mayle was a great 400 guy.

Last I read, the Ohio school record for the 40-yard dash is held by CFL Hall of Famer Chip Cox (4.37).
The 100m is a different beast tho.

Carney is almost certainly the answer if you consider relative to typical speeds at the time. I think of all players in OU history, I think I'd give Dennis the best shot to get under that with 60+ years of training and technique knowledge. I'm still not sure if he could. Dennis can flat out fly though. I'd be interested to know.

Didn't we have a former Bobcat that was also a track athlete? Scott Mayle? Gotta think Chris Garrett would be on that short list too.
Mike Mitchell is still the scariest thing I've ever seen on an Ohio football field once he got a full head of steam and plowed into someone.

We've had a few with speed. I know Chris London ran track (sprints) also while being a safety for us. Not sure his speed but he was fast.

Scott Mayle as a long jumper was ranked 4th in the world in his senior year. Considering his 100 time, He was definitely a track athlete.

In the 1980s, Stuart Hinds was a receiver who was also a track athlete. He was far more successful in track. Online, there is evidence that he ran a 21.24 in the 200. This probably was not his best time, as I thought he won the MAC one year (I may be wrong). He probably is Carney's best competition.
https://trackattic.xyz/MAC/MAC-1984.pdf
Sadly, he passed away in 2022. I forgot he was from Canada.

More recently I know De'Montre Tuggle was a good 100m runner.
He ran 11.01 in high school

And I wonder about the surfaces these shoes land on. Not going to be cinder or whatever they were 50 years ago I wouldn’t think

Scott Mayle in my time. Saw his 4.19 on pro day that they changed to 4.23 because of wind the same day Ginn ran 4.19 at OSU. Faster than Garrett Wolf, as he was considered to be the fastest in the MAC our year. Scott shut that down quickly.
But according to what I read, I would say Les Carney and Scott Mayle.
Other fast guys I played with:
Ray Huston 4.36 Ryan Hawk 4.39 Dion Byrum 4.34

Good point. That is definitely a factor
The one positive with newer times is they are more accurate with camera and sensor technology. Hand-timed 40s can be very dicey
I've seen crazier things happen.
