OU is favored by -2.5

JSU is a really good team. Luckily, I think they play right into our hands with how much they run. 267 yards a game under Rich Rod. 2nd in the nation behind Army.

OU's run defense is 5th in the country - 95.8

They also score a lot - averaging almost 37 a game. They lost by 2 to WKU. Then turned around and beat them by 40 a week later.

Gonna be a run battle. Defensive line really gonna be tested.

Since Jacksonville is practicing, I’m assuming we are too. Any updates on that. Last year we lost much of our offense before the bowl. Even with all the drama this year, we haven’t seen this yet ( cross my fingers).
Latest rumor-Rodriquez is all but gone.

It seems that it will be a battle of two teams that have lost their head coaches.

I couldn't find anything dating back to our all time record, but it looks like we have had 10 win seasons 5 times since 1962 including this season.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/ohio /

So a Cure Bowl win could potentially give us our first 11 win season in school history.

Yes, but you can't just look at total wins because, prior to 1962, no Ohio team even played 11 games. The Bobcats were undefeated in 1929, 1935, and 1960, as well as 1918 and 1930 where they did have a tie. Those early teams are difficult to compare, however, as the quality of the opposition was somewhat different.

Looking at the years after joining the MAC in 1946, the best winning percentages have been:
1. 1960 10-0-0 1.000 Hess
2. 1968 10-1-0 .909 Hess
3. 1959 7-2-0 .778 Hess
4. 2023 10-3-0 .769 Albin
===> 2024 is currently here, not including bowl, 10-3-0 .769 Albin/Smith
5. (tie) 1962 8-3-0 .727 Hess
1997 8-3-0 .727 Grobe
7. 1952 6-2-1 .722 Widdoes
8. 1953 6-2-1 .722 Widdoes
9. (tie) 2011 10-4-0 .714 Solich
2022 10-4-0 .714 Albin

If they win the bowl, they would finish at 11-3, .786, giving them the most wins in school history, moving them up to 3rd best in win percentage. Losing the bowl would put them in a 3-way tie for #9, still a good season.

An argument I would have expected from Alan Swank, if he hadn't gone the way of giacamo, OCF (temporary) and other long-time contributors to BA seemingly on a self-imposed exile.

Looking at portal news, JS has lost their number 3 and 4 tacklers ( 83 and 75 total tackles- third tackler is their sack leader), not so much on offense. I think these guys are like the Troy and Lafayette teams we’ve played in the past, very athletic, fast but much more of a running team than passing threat. It really looks to boil down to which team is able to stop the other teams two headed running monster.

Wow, thirteen straight losing seasons. Thank goodness I didn't even know Ohio had a football program back then.

Three straight 10 win seasons, finally have a 54 year monkey off our backs, a bowl against another conference champion, and possibly our first 11 win season in program history ushering in the Smith era.

We seem to have it pretty damn good.

I think so. I'm wondering if there are any locations where they can put in extra temporary stands. I remember back in the 1960 college division national championship year they did that for a few games, but there was a lot of extra area around the football field then with the track around it, before they dropped the field and put in artificial turf. I'm not sure that there is any space for that now, but maybe some clever engineer can figure out how that could be done.

If they could find a way to cram 25,000 into Peden, and they raise the ticket price for that one game to $80 (and build the $80 into the season ticket price, so that everyone pays it), that's $2 million for the game. With ticket revenue like that, it becomes possible for Ohio to make more deals that bring games like WVU to Peden on a regular basis. At 22,0000 and $10/ticket, and ticket revenue 1/10 that high, games like these will continue to be rare.

As I remember , at one time Marshall fans bought a lot of season tickets because they were so cheap and never used any except their game of course. It would make some sense to raise the season tickets some but not too much knowing how people would complain vehemently, I’m not sure they would do that. Charge a bundle for the WVU single game tickets for sure-we could use the money.

You have to give the Marshall fans credit for creative thinking on that, but it was a bad situation, and can be avoided by making sure the Season Tickets price in the full value of that game. Fans that don't want to pay that much can sell their WVU tickets, and get the money back, or more. To avoid that, Ohio could offer a special season ticket option for 2025, a season ticket which excludes the WVU game. That way, people unwilling to pay the price for the WVU game can simply opt out of buying it, and then the University can sell them as single game tickets to WVU fans.

In the end, the real question is, do people want these kinds of games in Peden? Do fans want FCS and G5 teams with a low ticket price, or P4 teams with a high ticket price?

Is the AD's office capable of such creative thinking? I guess we'll soon find out.

Perhaps get rid of the cannon and let family members of the players and University employees have SRO on the sidelines. Calculate how many can be on the hill and fill it more efficiently. Spend a little of the added ticket revenue and send the band on a nice weekend trip to play at a high school on Friday and Saturday and an NFL game instead of occupying the 300 plus seats on the student side.

I’ve never understood why the band quit sitting in the north end zone seats.

Send the 110 away for the game...they always say "there's no such thing as a bad idea". "They" were utterly wrong.
