Turned down offers from teams in the big10, pac10, sec, big east. Turned down his hometown team, Ball St. Must like something about Mt. Pleasant.

I had a job interview there once. It's a very nice campus, and nice area of Michigan. Not at nice as Athens, but that goes without saying!

Duh, they got the Soaring Eagle NIL deals on the table. Free Craps for life as well as free buffet. That's all I'd need.
In all seriousness, Illinois does not seem too heartbroken or jilted over this. Also, he decommitted in August of 21', and just committed to CMU. I'd say, things did not go as he thought they may. Also a young man who played at 4 different HS, and was committed to two other Universities. I'm sure he will find his forever home in Mt. Pleasant.

So, BTC, you're saying we can expect to see his name in the portal in about 11-12 months?

What do you take from his track record? Not much to suggest he's there for the long haul.
Wonder what the Soaring Eagle Sports Book would set the odds at?

Why go to a P5 school and sit the bench behind a bunch of 8th year COVID Seniors when you can go play in the minor leagues at CMU then transfer next year to an even better team than you would've rode the bench at?
I've seen crazier things happen.

Been watching this kid since 3rd grade at the Muncie Boys Club. Got skills. Not sure where anyone got info that he "turned down" any program. Well traveled. Left Muncie Central to Prep then returned to legendary Indianapolis Tech with a bunch of transfers landing the coach in hot water on the eve of Sectional. Tommy coached him last summer in Travel Ball on a pretty loaded team and generated a lot of connections but Reggie is ....Reggie... More power to Coach up at CMU . As they say down by the wall...Beuna Suerte. Still thinking he will be one of those guys who was a child "pro prospect" but ends up a Playground Park Legend

Not from Indiana and haven't been watching this kid since third grade at the Muncie Boys Club, or anywhere else for that matter. According to verbalcommits, however, it shows Bass had offers from Oregon St., Kansas St., Providence, Texas Tech, Florida and Illinois. So, if this website can be believed, he had to have "turned down" offers from other programs to sign an LOI with CMU. Speaking for myself, that's where I got my info.

He was offered by a few and verbally committed to Illinois https://www.illinoisloyalty.com/post/illinois-hoops-recru... / then decommitted when Illini signed a similar guard. THere is a lot more going on behind the scenes than ever meets the eye from both parties.
Are we saying an athlete with an offer is "turning down" any other school that offers him when he chooses someone else? I always thought it was a 2 party situation. I was under the impression Schools offer then move on or fill positions from a pool of offers while the offered athlete has to figure out where he fits with the team (and used to be with the academic offerings) and now what kind of deal he will get with NIL Some coaches throw offers at the wall while others target and follow up select individuals.

Will be watching this kid next year. Eastern/Western/Central Michigan are all shaping / rebuilding to be competitive a few years down the road in the MAC.

Seems like this is the new normal in college hoops. Kinda sad to me as a fan, but I don't blame any player for trying to better themselves.

I think an overlooked factor in the "portal on steroids" that we're dealing with regarding football and basketball is the extra covid year. Kids that got an extra year to play can justify the xfer more easily since they have 5 years instead of 4. I think even with the free transfer rules, we'll see the numbers taper a bit in the coming years when (most of) the kids are all traditional four-year schollies.
