Played 3 Years at JMU. 6'-8" 250 lbs. Averaged 9.8 and 9.3 last year. Appears to be a banger, didn't attempt a 3 all year and only shot 50% from the free throw line.

Not sure if this is a grad transfer situation or sit one and play 1.

Nice. There a couple powerful dunk highlights on his Twitter showing some pretty good athleticism. Tony Campbell/Reggie Keely size but leaner... He looks like a monster on the boards.

Based on the way the comments here are worded, it sounds like this is a "normal" transfer situation not a grad transfer. JMU has a new coach so that probably contributed to the reasons he transferred.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Looks like he is an elite rebounder. 8th best defensive rebound rate and 23rd best offensive rebound rate in the country this past season. Hopefully he is eligible next season because he would fill a big void for us.

Wilson is #24 but so is McMurray. Will Boals ask Mason to give it up or will the #24 be open next season?

Good pick up and a big body down low. He averaged just shy of a double double for a struggling JMU team that was picked fourth in the CAA but only won two conference games and finished in last. Only had six blocks last season so not the biggest defensive presence in that respect. Will be interesting how he transitions defensively. JMU was 251st in the country in FG% defense and 321st in scoring defense.

Awesome but is he eligible? 3 years at JMU tells me sit one to play one but how does that help us next year? We cannot lose a year of BVP and Jay Pres!!!! Need at least a guy for next year!!

Start of 21/22 season. He'd be in the same eligibility class as Preston and BVP.

It is a great pickup but if no one else transfers out I hope Boals believes Foster, Springs, White, McMurray, Granger and/or Towns is ready to play. We know what we have with McDay, Rod, preston, BVP, Brown and Murrell. Still need bigs or that will drive BVP to transfer. I believe in Boals but this one is strange to use our last scholly like this.

Wilson sounds like he could be an effective, if underappreciated, big in the MAC. A nice player for sure, but not one I'm sure I'd take if he has to sit one to play one. I'd only take someone who is going to be more of an impact guy in that scenario.

If Wilson can’t play next season, then I have to believe somebody is transferring out and Boals has something up his sleeve to bring in a grad transfer big man who can play immediately. If not, I’m a little confused by this signing.

With this signing wouldnt it be awesome to have another scholly left and go to an impact JUCO or grad with 2 years left!!! We are in good position to compete next year and with a big body for next year we should be favored. We return two of the top players in the league besides C-J, Graves, Pippen and Sibande.

Is that so? You spoke to him.

Perusing the JMU board, they seem to be mixed about Dwight leaving. A 10/10 guy is undoubtedly valuable, but JMU was very bad this year and the program is in reset mode. Some described Dwight as cinder blocks for feet and struggled against taller guys. So don't expect a star, I guess, but do expect someone with better points and rebound numbers than Sylvester or Doug Taylor.

Hopefully this motivates our stable of forwards and centers. The door is open this year to solidify your spot in the rotation before the experienced guy is eligible.

Struggles against taller guys doesn't really matter when it comes to MAC play. Non-conference and tournament play maybe, but the MAC isn't exactly exploding with dominant big men over 6'8". If he's a banger and can grab boards and has more of an offensive game than Ogbonda had, this is an upgrade. I'm with Flomo though...just confused on why we would take the one for one scenario.

Agree. And that's the only thing I see that's potentially questionable about this. We're seeing conflicting info -- is Dwight a play now, or sit one year player? I also would find this signing to be a little perplexing if he has to sit a year -- unless of course there are more things to happen that we're not yet aware of. Because for me, this group needs/needed to use the supposed last scholly on a ready-to-play this year type of player.

+1

And why is it so hard to get concrete info on if this guy is eligible next season or has to sit out a year? And if Dwight sits out this season and we don't have another scholly to use, who in the heck is replacing Sylvester in the paint in 2020-2021?

When you look down the list of available big men in the transfer portal, There aren't many quality players that we might reasonably expect to get. At first blush, he appears to be much better than Sylvester. And I'm not seeing the upside in Foster to match this guy. I agree that it would be nice if he could play this next year but if not, we can look forward to a veteran group with potential to make real noise thereafter.

He’s playing next year. Makes zero sense to sit out.

I have to believe he will be eligible right away, it just doesn't make sense for both player and team otherwise. Perhaps it is unclear because he will have to bust it academically to graduate after summer classes?

This scenario also made me think of another wild question. Is there anything stopping a player from playing for one team during fall semester, finish out the credits necessary to graduate, and play the winter semester with a different team in the same scenario as a grad transfer?

Dwight Wilson is an excellent acquisition. I read where his stats as a soph were 10.2 and 7.8 rebs, and his shooting percentage was 59%. Read an article where he worked really hard between his soph and junior seasons on developing a 15-17 foot shot. Even if he can't shoot threes, medium range jumpers can stretch a defense.

He also had 15 blocks as a soph. Not a ton, but more than in his junior year.

Don't know if he has to sit out a year. Someone else mentioned the scenario where he could possibly graduate from JMU over the summer and come here as a grad transfer.
