That 2008 OWU team won their conference title, Rio Grande is DEAD LAST in theirs, and well under .500

According to Arkley's twitter, OHIO also got two-hit.

Replace baseball with men's track?

Baseball is required to be a full member of the MAC not men's track.

I went to the game last night with my son.  In the seventh inning, my wife stopped by with extra blankets.  She saw the scoreboard and asked "Is Rio even Division 1?"  I said "they're not Division anything.  They're NAIA...  This is really happening."

The end of the game was surreal.  Runner on, Bobcats dugout exuding with confidence - they would pull it out in the end, right?  Called third strike to end the game.  The players were just stunned, and didn't move, as if they game would continue playing.  Rio was stunned too.  They didn't celebrate right away, as if they weren't sure it really happened.

I know it's anathema to fire a coach in a non-revenue producing sport mid contract, but it has to be crossing people's minds.

I'd ask for a refund.

It was a joke.

Which is silly. We're not in college baseball country here. Buffalo, NIU, CMU, EMU...do they really need teams? Baseball is also pretty expensive from a travel and facility standpoint (field maintenance, supplies, etc.).

I know its mandatory as of now but I don't believe college baseball as a varsity sport will not be around much longer in the MAC and north in general. You are already seeing many teams cut their programs due to the high cost of scholarships and travel. Temple, Cal, Towson, Vermont, UMASS, Iowa State, Providence, Boston, Northern Iowa, Colorado State, Duquesne are all schools that have been dealing with this issue. Some have been reinstated but its only a temporary fix.

College baseball has over 200 DI schools, the 2nd most of any male sport competing in DI next to men's basketball.  The sport is very healthy numbers wise nationwide, I hope it hangs on in the Rustbelt.

Cal and Towson are still playing and plan to continue doing so.

This MAC requirement, I think, was put in way back when the MAC actually had nationally ranked teams on a very regular basis and produced many major leaguers.  Ohio's Bob Wren once had one of the highest number former players in the majors of any college coach.  As I recall, at one time, he was #2 to the guy at Arizona State.  I know Kent has had some good teams in recent years, but generally the MAC is a shadow of its former self in baseball.  Maybe the MAC needs to reconsider this rule.  I'm not saying that they should necessarily change it, but just look at the pros and cons.  I know I'd have a different attitude if OHIO's fortunes were better at the moment.  I had high hopes for the new coaching regime, but we've gone from the frying pan into the fire.
