At this pace, we may not match last years mark of 14 wins. We have yet to win a series, any series.

Rob Smith has yet to win a series as head coach, he went 1-2 in all 9 series last year

Too soon to start suggesting replacements?

Joe Sottolano would be a steal.

Not sure how this going to turn out, but it's looking pretty bad do far. Why should we feel good about the future, baseball guys?

No reason to feel good about the future.

So, if in your second year you cannot reach a win total you had in your 1st year (when 1st year was the worse in decades), are you going forwards or backwards?

Depends on what type contract he got. Doubt they would buy him out.

I think he's got one more year. If there is not significant improvement then I would say he might be done.

At this point 10 wins would be an improvement.

Another loss to Kron.

Rob has never won a MAC series.

Team has lost 19 of last 20.

I don't follow our baseball team too closely nowadays. Are we building for the future, or just bad?

Hard to believe that this coach can pull the team out of this tailspin. What player would want to came into a team this bad-even if they would get a chance to play. There is something seriously wrong here. Again, can any of you baseball followers lend us some insight here?

The Bobcats are now 5-27, and 1-11 in the MAC.  Our 5 wins are against Murray State, Liberty, Longwood, Georgia Southern, and Western Michigan.  3 of the 5 wins were by 1 run, and another was by 2.  We have scored 99 runs and given up 250 in 32 games.  We have hit 5 home runs, all season.

I am all for allowing time for a new regime, but man this is bad regardless of the talent inherited.  The very nature of baseball makes it extremely difficult to be THIS bad.  I guess we will see how they finish out the year...

OK,,,   We have 8 freshmen pitchers that are on the mound regularly that are only a few innings away from high school ball.  These guys are many times over matched by DI hitters.  Knowing this, they try hard to nibble corners and end up walking too many batters.  There is a major difference between high school strike zones and DI strike zones and these guys are not getting away with borderline pitches like they did for the last 4 years. They have also discovered that they don't overpower hitters like they did in high school.  Because of this they are working at developing new or better pitches.  These are things that they would normally have a freshmen year to perfect in the bullpen, not on the mound.

We have a least 11 or 12 pitchers that were not on our roster last year.

We have at least 6 or 7 projected starters out for the season with injuries.

We have 6 freshmen that start regularly that are facing DI pitching for the first time. There is a MAJOR difference from the high school pitching they all faced for the last 4 years.

We have a few experienced players that are trying to win games with every swing, knowing that the pitching is going to give up runs in bunches.  Trying to do too much with every at-bat.

I'll give them this,,,,, I have not seen one single player giving up or taking losing lightly.  These guys are working their asses off trying to win games.  Everyone of them wears the Green and White with pride.

Thanks for the info. I've been looking for some from someone who follows the team. Shines a much different light on the situation.

+1 I sure hope we can right the ship . . . perhaps more time is warranted if the team is that young.

In a sport where many are drafted professionally out of HS, and again after their Jr year, you expect me to believe that freshmen are overmatched? If they are overmatched they probably are borderline anyway. And where are all these players from last year?

We've discussed injuries, why are there soooo many of these before the season even begins?

have fait better things are on the way. D3 Otterbein is this Wednesday. I watched them Saturday and they are not bad for a d3 program , no Marietta but who knows what might happen in a midweek non-conference game.

We cancelled the Otterbein game and will not be playing National Power Rio Grande.

WE did not cancel the game!!!  Otterbein had to reschedule a conference game that was rained out.  WE found what is probably the only team within a couple hour drive that was available and willing to play on Wednesday.  I just don't understand why people try to make us look bad on here.
