Thanks for posting this, stub. It's a mystery why Ohio State is so restrictive. There at St. John Arena I asked Geoff Carlston if he could help out---but he couldn't. He attested to my character, but couldn't change the decision of the Media and Public Relations office. And the band! They denied the band.We were all a bit miffed.

You really think the head coach at Ohio State would want the visiting teams band playing in their venue?????

Ordinarily I would agree with you, but Carlston was the main reason this (alumni) band exists in the first place. He was a driving force behind its creation in 2006, when he coached at Ohio. There's a connection...

We'll never know whether he had a say in nixing us, but if he did, that's disappointing.

😂😂😂 yeah, he liked it as coach at OHIO, he like many coaches recognizes the home court advantage and the emotional lift that something like your band can give. Regardless of what you may think, Carleton is trying to win games at OSU and reach the top of his conference like all the people he has offices next too. He’s not looking to make OHIO feel comfortable.

Oh, I totally get what you're saying --- he wanted to build atmosphere at games, and I think that was accomplished (at least, at Ohio). I think John Thorndike would agree with me, that the atmosphere for the OSU game was less than stimulating. The crowd was DEAD, and their band honestly did not generate a lot of excitement, in my humble opinion.

So, given your take on the OSU atmosphere, why would Carlson want the alumni band present to provide motivation to his opponent.

Geoff Carlston did inquire about allowing the band to perform but apparently an OSU athletic policy does not allow that. Regarding the videoing of games by Match Point Ohio, they have never been denied before by any school, including Penn State, Michigan (Go Blue), Pitt., Kentucky, Louisville, Dayton, Xavier, and a host of MAC schools.

p.s. Geoff Carlston may be the only coach who has ever been on this message board, when he sent farewells and best wishes when he was leaving.

Do you not think the presence of a visiting band would fire up the HOME crowd? It should...

Regardless, Stub's response would indicate Carlston didn't have a problem with it. He's been pretty cool since he left OU...

For the record, Stub, the OSU official who denied the request cited a Big 10 rule (even though it wasn't a Big 10 game) that specifically prohibits visiting bands.

No wonder we lost, no band and no video, hopefully these issues are solved going forward. Amazing that OHIO Football can win any road games when the band does not show up.

Cue the resident STATE apologist. Consistent, the Cat does not change his spots.

LOL, not being an OSU Apologist, just someone who understands what home court advantage is and how you help protect it. Personally, I am not a fan of OSU or their VB coach in any manner, however, when faced with silly criticism I will gladly defend both, even if defending the later makes my stomach churn just a bit.
