Came across this today. Glad to see somebody shining a light on this, and hope there's a path to getting more resources.

I read this on Sunday too. It seems that there are some systemic regulatory issues that prevent some families in some situations from getting aid. In the interim, schools would be the logical place from which to administer programs in that when it comes to kids, they are the most likely to see or not see their presence.

Joe Burrow just created a foundation to address this issue is Southern Ohio and rural Louisiana, as well as the city of Cincinnati.

He's good man with a good heart. Like much of Athens County, I've become a Bengals fan because of Joey, even though my son is still a diehard Browns fan.

The university should have as part of the freshman class requirement a community service project of choice to offer students and a way to bond with their freshman class. Southeast Ohio and urban renewal were the university would supply transportation. Environmental projects to help with land management and farming projects to provide assistance at CSAs. If the university would market that to prospective families it might catch the interest of students who want something mission oriented. Then there is also a self selection factor on what project you take and likeminded people you can meet. Actually best to make it an elective and substitution for a required course so a student doesn't have to necessarily have to take on a community service project.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

More of us need to start pounding this drum, both in Athens and Columbus. The State of Ohio needs to recognize that OU is a latent vehicle for change in SE Ohio and force the issue. We need eyeballs on the problem as well as dollars.
