From the university website it shows what they have for sale. The entire W.Union St block across from Bromley Hall is up for sale. RTEC building is not up for sale which might portend future development there.

Woolworth's Building
Hanning Hall (OCF said the city may buy this one)
Lasher Hall
Central Classroom Building (redevelop into lofts?)
Crewson House (prime location on college green & court st)

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

Crewson House would be a great buy at $304K. Awesome property for a B&B.

That's the auditor's appraised value which is most likely 200K short of market value. Still a great location for a B&B.

With a real estate bubble potential exists for a discount in the near future though.

More important is who they sell them to and what their plan is. Gotta be real careful.

Whether you got it at that price or for more or less, it would take hundreds of thousands more to make it a viable modern B&B. It's been offices for decades and people generally want private bathrooms. And that's not to mention all the codes and regulations you'd have to meet. Finally, given the painfully obvious deferred maintenance all around campus, it's a safe bet that this place needs some fundamental work on top of all that.

I gotta say that the old Woolworth building would make a great location for a bar. ;)

In Athens is there not a good location for a bar? Fifty years ago some friends of mine bought the bar down the alley next to what is now Chipotle. I think it was behind the old Varsity Theater. They changed the name from Up the Alley to Up Your Alley and later The Longbranch Saloon. The place was packed almost every night. Of course, this was when 18-year-olds could buy 3.2 beer.

Come to think of it, it was in back of the Woolworth building.

Ah, I wasted many an evening in The Longbranch. Please don’t tell your friend, but I think I still have one of their pitchers. I really can’t recall how it got here though.

One bad location was the Old Tool Tavern (?), which opened along the tracks between Lakeview Apartments and East Green. It did not last long.

The problem with that place was it was the only bar in that area. Wasn't possible to bar hop.

The last 25 years or so in Athens the direction of new bars has gone away from little taverns to larger sports bars with outdoor seating options if possible. Then too having respectable food is a money maker like the North End Kitchen and Bar on court street where the old Cornwell Jewelers was located. They have signature street tacos to bring people in.

FWIW checking out the Athens, Ohio visitor bureau website there are 105 restaurants in Athens proper including all types. Oxford has 68 by comparison so I think there are plenty enough places for a college student on a tight budget to buy some food and drink. Clemson only has 53 restaurants and has hauled in Top 5 recruiting classes.
