I think that's the green Kool-Aid talking. Taking nothing away from Cooper, who was a spectacular college player, you have to be insanely good to make the NBA at any size, let alone under six feet. A good reference point is Kay Felder, a similar player who was the 54th overall pick last year and managed to make a roster. Felder's career college stats are almost uniformly significantly better than Cooper's. Yes, that includes assists (7.8 to 6.5). Cooper is making a great living playing and deserves it, but between his size and his current 33% pro average for three-point shooting, it's hard to see him ever playing in the NBA. I guess I also assumed that the 3pt shooting might have improved, but I agree that 33% isn't getting it done in the NBA for a player who is 5-11 or thereabouts. My feeling has always been that his gift is his court vision, and that there has to be a place in the league for that. Because in my opinion, there aren't more than maybe a half a dozen PGs in the NBA that have such a skill. Maybe I don't watch enough to hold that opinion though. Isaiah Thomas of the Celtics is burying the "small guys can't play in the NBA" theory almost every night in Boston. He's never shot better than 39% from three in his NBA career. His college assists stats were underwhelming for a PG.
