That was way fun. Best fans in the MAC showed up today. Ozone was packed and up and loud. Is it just me or are we still the only ones in the MAC that can get crowds like that?

Nobody can touch that for crowd size or general atmosphere. I've been in almost every MAC gym...no contest.

For all of the gnashing of teeth about the O Zone, they got into it. Give them a legitimately big game (not a game that's "big" because they're giving out socks or something), and they make a difference. Akron is always "big game" material. Would be nice if we had a few more home games with that sort of opponent (MAC or non-conference).

I noticed in the WMU/CMU highlights from Friday that Keene-mania has taken over CMU. Their atmosphere looked pretty good. They sold out, but still only 5,400, barely half of the 10,000 we reported today. When our fans show up, no one in the MAC can touch us.

It seemed the band got to play a bit more today and did I really hear some CCR during one of the timeouts? Oh yeah, and the jump rope crew from Troy brought the house down at halftime. It was fun to be in the Convo. One more Saturday game. I hope no one messes with the time or date.

Agree with you here, Alan. I did see one ridiculous scenario where the cheerleaders were trying lead the fans in the GREEN - WHITE cheer and the loud speaker muzak comes on and drowns them out. They kept trying for several minutes, but nobody would turn off the canned crap. Who is in charge of that stuff? Don't they try to coordinate with the cheerleaders? Overall, though, it was a very good experience in the Convo today from game action to the 110 playing!

Amen to that. (Not messing with the last Saturday game)

Even the national anthem rocked today.

I saw the difference even on TV. I am glad the students showed up and the 110 had (what appeared) more feature time. Would have been very concerning if we didn't have the place rocking for a Saturday Game against the hacks from ha-Akron. Nice job students and 110!

It was sort of drowned out yesterday by the goings on of the game yesterday, maybe bad timing. But I did hear an attempt, and understand if not many else in the Convo heard the attempt.

Interestingly they started it at about the 45 second mark when we were only up 8 and before the parade to the foul line started. Several rows of guys younger than me who sit in section 3 started yelling across the court at them "not yet, it's too soon."

So this was my first OU game of the season unfortunately, and I honestly thought the OZone was just underwhelming. There doesn't seem to be any leadership when it comes to the chants. Half the students standing up weren't even participating.

The Winning Team, Losing Team chant was the worst I have ever seen. I yelled out it was way to early to be doing that. Especially when no one can even hear the damn thing.

Glad I wasn't the only one who thought the Ozone can do way better. I loved the size of the crowd overall, but I was just waiting for more from the student section the entire game. They've gone soft.

I came with three other Ohio grads and former Ozone members. We spent the first half in our regular seats and the second half in the Ozone just to make sure we weren't actually taking crazy pills. No real organized chants or any structure that we could hear. I know our crowds and student section are tops in the MAC, but our student section can do so much better.

The 110 fills up 1/3 of what not that many years ago was Ozone filled seats. The other end was about half full. So - about 40% Ozone attendance vs not that many years ago.

And - Who are the brilliant ones who start up OU/Oh Yeah chant while we have a shooter on the FT line??? LLOWW BBIQ/BBFanIQ........

Is it just me, or can the whole building do better? I'm talking about tonight, against Central, in the area of the game with 8-10 minutes to go when Ohio is getting it down to 3, 4, 5 point deficits. People need to understand when OUr guys cut a deficit to a couple possessions while making a come back, folks THAT is the time to get up off your rear end and yell and will on yOUr team. Waiting for them to take the lead isn't what offering a home court advantage is all about.

The best years for the Ozone were the O'Shea years. The last three coaches lost too many home games that should have been won, and that doesn't promote fan enthusiasm.

I would say that has a lot more to do with the individuals within the OZone at that time than it does with home losses by any coach. Because let's be honest, Timmy's teams lost their fair share at home as well.

I remember one point, right around the time mark you mentioned, and the fans were on their feet all over the round house making lots of noise and then Keene cans a three from some incredible spot and everyone just gets quiet and sits down. I'll have to admit that I was one of them. That shot just sunk our momentum.

There was audible gawking at his shots. Never seen anything quite like that. Felt like you were watching an NBA player.

I'll grant you two things on this - you were in the building, I was not. TV might have made it seem quieter than reality in this case. Second, I agree with that specific situation.

Those things said, there were other opportunities last night when crowd noise, crowd response, would have been appropriate and it seemed quiet. This comments isn't necessarily specific to last night.

Me too. It looked like we were on a run and then - kaboom - he nails that 3. People don't like to be told what to do. Between the stand for D plea and the guy with the mic, it just turns people off. In concert terms, a standing ovation has not become expected whether the performance warrants it or not.

Man, I miss the days when we would see legit NBA prospects frequently in MAC play. Gary Trent, Nate Huffman, Antonio Daniels, Ira Newble, Derick Dial, Earl Boykins, Wally Szcerbiak, S. Stonerook, Bonzi Wells, Brandon Hunter, Chris Kaman... Those are just the ones I can think of...I'm sure there are more that looked like they had a shot.... seemed to die off around 2005. Bummer.
