While I'm sure that's the case for some athletes, I'm skeptical that it is for most. As for OCF, that BA credibility ship sailed a long time ago. . . about 15,500 posts ago. Almost all schooling is done on-line for these athletes, so him carrying credits to graduate with the changes is not a surprise. I think you’re right in that your lived experience in college isn’t really happening for these 5 in 5 guys. My one callout is that the circumstances are completely different now. Guys stayed at the same school for 4-5 years because there was no incentive to leave. You leaving for another school meant you would have had to sit out, so even if Duke came calling, you’d have wasted a year. Nowadays, you have to acknowledge that your lived experience isn’t realistic anymore because of the money aspect. Put yourself in the shoes of the athletes today, if you were Mark Sears or AJ Brown and given the opportunity to go make life changing money by transferring, would you not have taken it? Don’t blame the player, blame the system that was created without any real rules by the NCAA. Hopefully this whole thing in congress leads to real contracts on top of the planned 1 free transfer rule. But for the last few years, you can’t blame guys for playing the system they were given to operate in and find the most money they could in a 4-5 year earning potential window. If anything, OU has fared much better in retention over that stretch than most schools particularly mid majors (although you could argue that retention kept certain players around we would have been better without). The same thing would apply if you moved to a new city every year or took a new job every year. You haven't really made relationships or learned about your surroundings, which I don't think is good. You're right though, if I were in today's system and I could jump to the Big 10 for big money, I would. Looking back, I'm glad it went the way it did for me. It helped prepare me for life. I have a ton of friends and know tons of people who lived in a different place every year, or close to it. They're pretty commonly extremely socially adaptable, have been exposed to a huge range of cultures and demographics, and I think they'd disagree that it was not good. I'm glad you were happy with your experience and had a good one. But I suspect that if you'd done it differently -- transferred, moved around regularly -- you'd probably be way less inclined to think doing so makes it impossible to make friends and learn about your surroundings. There's plenty to critique about a guy transferring 5 times -- especially about the system that incentivises that. But lecturing a stranger for choosing a different college experience than you just seems weird and judgemental. I scratch my bald head every time this song lyric is quoted because the users don't seem to know what the singer is trying to convey. It is interpreted that the character in the 1973 musical, "A Little Night Music" has made lots of mistakes and poor choices in her life. Then in the second act she sings a character solo of the song with these lyrics but she does so fully knowing/believing she is one of the clowns/fools in the list of characters.
