Something tells me Boals is going to reverse his plans for redshirting Kiir Kuamy and playing Ayden Evans. Kuamy is eligible Jan. 1.

He's been on the bench in uniform the past 2 games. Had me wondering if plans on redshirting him might be changing.

I wouldn't redshirt any healthy player (who could contribute in ANY way) in The Portal Era.

Honestly, if he can help, play him. More than half the season will still be available and it's going to be a bad investment to not get Evans and/or Kuany some meaningful run. Last night's game was a wrap by the eight minute mark. That Evans and Nicol only got about three minutes each was perplexing.

I had a brief conversation with someone at the MACC and mentioned that Coach Boals must be pulling his hair out. "Looks like he's got pieces that just don't fit together."

The other person (an Ohio employee) replied, "Wait until you see..." and then stopped himself before adding, "I shouldn't say anything yet."

I could have pressed the issue but at that point someone walked in with two fresh, hot pizzas and I lost focus.

Interesting tidbit. So you think the employee is implying about Kuany? That would be a nice jolt if he's able to contribute. Getting another 6'8+ body in the rotation could do wonders during MAC play.

The first comment about pieces not fitting makes me wonder more about the aftermath of this season. We have more of the same committed so far.

With Searls doing well I just don't see how he could and not sure burning a year 12 games deep into the season is worth it to not just us but Kuany.

Not sure if it was the angle or what, but towards the end of the game last night they showed Evans standing next to Kuany.

Kuany's listed as taller, but at least based on that shot it's hard to believe that's true. Made me a lot less confident that Kuany is going to be a rim protector, and made me feel like our best hope for the season is that Evans develops faster than expected.

With all the cases of waivers and extra years being granted out there, I'm not sure 12 games would burn a year if in fact, Kuany does participate in MAC play. We also have no way of predicting he finishes his career in Athens as this point, so it's sort of moot under the new landscape.

I don’t think Kuany is a rim protector. Rewatching his highlights, he plays more like AJC with higher upside athleticism. We could use both this year, in some capacity imo.

I hate to say it because....let's be honest....Boals knows Nicol/Evans aren't ready...and we know it just by the limited minutes we've watched as fans. It's frustrating. How can a guy like Nicol who by all accounts was a pretty damn good HS player.....not be ready to go as a redshirt freshman?

I agree about Kuany. What are the odds we have him for five years anyway? If he can help more than Evans at this point, freaking play him. As for Nicol, I wouldn't be surprised if he's in the portal March 2025. In the world of college hoops today, you can't take as much time on projects and wait for guys to develop like you did 10 years ago.

I feel like you have a habit of picking at the few players each year who are not in our rotation. Nearly all teams run a rotation of around 8 and have 2-3 active scholarship players who do not play. I don't want to see a 12 man rotation and I'm sure Boals doesn't either. Nicol hasn't been able to eclipse EJ4, AJB, Mitchell & Elliott to crack the rotation. And it's understandable and not surprising.

Not picking on. In the preseason, Boals discussed Nicol and gave the impression he would play and help. It hasn't happened. Are we not allowed to be disappointed? Wouldn't it be nice if a Chaos, EJ4, AJB are struggling that you can bring in a guy like Nicol off the bench who can hit shots and be a spark? Obviously, he's not ready. Like I said, I hope Ben proves me wrong and contributes at some point.

Mitchell looked FAR from 100% last night.

Isn't that the type of knee brace worn by somebody trying to play through a torn ACL? Maybe somebody with some orthopedic or OMM or physical therapy training would know better if they saw it.

Honing in on or obsessing over, or painting their lack of playing time as a failure from the coaches. My point is you need to keep perspective that every team is going to have a few kids that do not make the rotation. Every scholarship kid is going to come in as a successful HS player with prospects and the coaches will also speak the praises of their kids potential...but we are not and should not have a 13 man rotation. Taken together that means guys like Ben Nicol will exist, no matter what.
