Bobcats can't slow down Rockets

Toledo shoots 62% in 101-85 win

TOLEDO – Toledo shot 61.9% for the game and snapped Ohio’s five-game winning streak 101-85 on Tuesday night at Savage Arena.

Ohio (10-8, 4-2 Mid-American Conference) mostly kept pace in the first half, trialing 52-50 at the break, but Toledo (10-7, 4-1 MAC) did not let up in the second half.

Sonny Wilson scored 25 points, while Leroy Blyden Jr. had 24 points for the Rockets.

Javan Simmons scored 21 points with six rebounds for Ohio. Jackson Paveletzke added 20 points and six assists.

Toledo came out strong in the second half, turning its two-point lead into a 69-54 advantage in the first five minutes. Unable to get many stops, Ohio got no closer than 13 the rest of the way.

The Bobcats were the ones to star the first half hot, taking a 17-7 lead in the first five minutes on a Javan Simmons layup. Kiir Kuany hit a 3-pointer a short time later to make it 22-9.

With a highly effective offense, the Rockets worked their way back into the game, eventually tying the score at 40 on a Blyden 3-pointer. They earned their first lead of the night on a Blyden tip-in with 35 seconds left in the half and then got a steal and Blyden 3-pointer. Paveletzke beat the buzzer to make it a two-point game at halftime.

Aidan Hadaway scored 16 points but fouled out in 27 minutes on the court. Jesse Burris had 10 points in 14 minutes off the bench.

Ohio could not keep up its 60.6% first-half shooting, making just 38.7% of its attempts in the second half. In addition to its hot shooting from the field, Toledo made 16 of 17 free throws.

The Bobcats take on Ball State at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Muncie, Indiana, on CBS Sports Network.
