Balanced Ohio routs Division III Muskingum

12 different Bobcats score

ATHENS – Ohio had do trouble as expected in rolling to a 103-52 victory against Division III Muskingum to wrap up nonconference play Monday night at The Convo.

All 12 players who entered the game played at least nine minutes and all of them scored for the Bobcats (6-6). They led 48-25 at halftime and continued to pour it on in the second half despite frequent substitutions.

AJ Clayton led Ohio with 13 points and six rebounds in 22 minutes. Shareef Mitchell scored 12 points in only 15 minutes, and freshman Elijah Elliott had a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds in only 20 minutes. Aidan Hadaway reached double figures with 10 points and added seven rebounds.

Duane Davis paced the Muskies with 15 points.

Muskingum actually led 11-6 in the opening four and a half minutes before Ohio began to take over, taking the lead for good on a Mitchell layup at the 13:51 mark. A short time later, the Bobcats went on an 11-0 run to go up 28-15 midway through the half. They added a run of nine straight points and led by 23 points at halftime.

A 12-0 run early in the second half was capped by a Clayton 3-pointer that made it 70-34. The only thing in doubt late in the game is whether the Bobcats would top the century mark, and they did so on a Ben Nicol layup with 30 seconds left. They added an Ayden Evans dunk after a steal in the final 15 seconds.

Ohio shot 56%, while Muskingum finished at just 27%.

The Bobcats begin Mid-American Conference play with a trip to Central Michigan at 7 p.m. Saturday.
