ATHENS – Jason Preston had his second straight double-double as Ohio rolled past Division III Heidelberg 88-50 on Saturday at The Convo.

Preston finished with 16 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds, while Ben Vander Plas finished with 18 points and six rebounds to lead the Bobcats (2-0). Nolan Foster had 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench, and Lunden McDay also reached double figures with 10 points.

Dylan Woods was the only player for the Student Princes (0-1) in double figures, finishing with 13 points.

Woods hit a 3-pointer to give Heidelberg a 5-1 lead, but Ohio went up 10-9 on a Preston layup with 13:32 left in the first half and did not trail again.

"It's not ideal to get off to slow starts," Ohio coach Jeff Boals aid. "We talk about setting the tone defensively and offensively, and I felt Heidelberg did that in both halves. I though our guys responded pretty well and picked up the energy level on both ends."

Ohio’s lead reached double figures on a Vander Plas 3-pointer at the 5:23 mark, and a Mason McMuarry’s 3-pointer at the first-half buzzer gave the Bobcats a 43-26 advantage.

The Student Princes cut their deficit to 45-32 early in the second half, but it was all Bobcats after that. McMurray 3-pointers put Ohio up by 19 and then later gave them a 56-35 advantage. A Jordan Dartis 3-pointer capped an 11-0 Bobcats ran that extended the lead to 76-41.

Sylvester Ogbonda, Dartis and McMurray had nine points apiece for Ohio, which was 13 of 27 from long range and shot 50.8% overall.

"I was impressed with the way we shared the basketball," Boals said. "Sometimes in games like this you can get kind of selfish, but I felt we made the best plays for the most part."

Heidelberg shot just 33.3% in the game, had 15 turnovers and was outrebounded 44-30.

After missing the opener with an injury, freshman Marvin Price played three minutes and scored three points. Ben Roderick, Miles Brown and Connor Murrell remained out with injuries.

Ohio plays the first of five straight games away from The Convo when it travels to face Iona at 7 p.m. Wednesday in New Rochelle, New York.
