Kaminski's 23 points leads Ohio rout of Kent State

Bobcats roll in 2nd straight MAC home game


ATHENS – Ohio rolled for the second time in as many Mid-American Conference home games, routing Kent State, 85-67, on Friday night at The Convo.

The Bobcats (10-3, 2-0 MAC) used a 12-0 run midway through the first half to take control, added a 9-0 run late in the first half and then led by as many as 29 points in the second half.

Kenny Kaminski went 5 of 9 from long range and scored 23 points, while Antonio Campbell scored 18 points. Jordan Dartis tallied 13 points, Jaaron Simmons had a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists, and Gavin Block scored eight points.

Deon Edwin led the Golden Flashes (9-6, 1-1 MAC) with 16 points, Jaylin Walker scored 12 points, and Jimmy Hall had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Kent State led 18-16 on a Walker jumped at the 13:39 mark, but Kaminski hit a jumper and Ohio did not trail again. Kaminski added two free throws, Block and Laster scored layups and Kaminski connected on a 3-pointer to make it 28-18 Ohio with 7:46 remaining in the first half.

The Bobcats’ lead was 36-25 when Simmons hit a jumper, Campbell scored two buckets in a row inside, and Block hit a 3-pointer to push the advantage to 20 points.

Kent State’s biggest run of the night was nine straight points early in the second half, cutting a 58-33 Ohio lead to 58-42, but Adonis De La Rosa was called for a technical foul for flopping, Dartis hit two free throws, and that was as close as the Golden Flashes got.

Ohio shot 53.4 percent in the game and was 14 of 23 (60.9 percent) at the foul line. Kent State shot just 37.9 percent and was only 8 of 18 (44.4 percent) on free throws. The Golden Flashes had 21 turnovers, and the Bobcats had 18.

The Bobcats have their first MAC road game when they travel to Amherst, New York, to face Buffalo at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
